LYNCHBURG, Va. – 125 athletes from Massachusetts competed at the 2019 State Games of America in Lynchburg, Va. The State Games of America is a biennial competition that brings together medal winners from each of the state games organizations from across the country to compete. The competition took place July 31 – August 4 and was hosted by the Virginia Commonwealth Games, Liberty University, and city of Lynchburg.
Massachusetts had the seventh most athletes compete. 93 of the 125 athletes competed in the figure skating. Massachusetts also had athlete representation in archery (8), footgolf (3), judo (1), track & field (4), yoga (11), pickleball (1), and shooting (1).
Massachusetts was also well represented on the podium having won medals in each represented sports. Highlights included swimmer Daniel Scherrer (Wellesley, Mass.) winning six medals, figure skater Amelia Bouchard (Greenfield, Mass.) winning three gold medals, and every archer earning either a gold or silver in each of their events.

The next State Games of America will take place in 2021 and will be hosted by Iowa Games at Iowa State University. All medalists from the 2019 and 2020 Bay State Games will qualify to compete in the 2021 State Games of America.
